ECOTOURISM - RESPONSIBLE TOURISM & SUSTAINABLE TOURISM
This section is to highlight those businesses in Havelock North who have taken it upon themselves to ensure that as well as providing quality tourism experiences they have also extended and enhanced their environmental and social criteria for accommodation , visitor activities, transport and other services.
The following businesses have had to meet minimum requirements in ecotourism and who are actively participating in - energy efficiency - conservation initiatives
- waste management - community activities
- water conservation.
Transport Services
1. Village Shuttle - the Village Shuttle is locally owned and an environmentally responsible company.
Our shuttle meets stringent European emission standards and the current Toyota is rated at 4 which is the highest one can get in N.Z. at the present time.
All waste from Wine and Food tours is placed in recycling bins and no plastic bags are used - only corn based replica bags are used.
Accommodation
The following accommodation providers have been assessed to have or being in the process of ensuring they are environmentally responsible. Most have been assessed by Qualmark and passed their requirements or basic guidelines. We have tried to visit each property and independently assess them.
In the future these properties and others will be rated according to degree of environment compliance.
